let's give everyone the benefit of doubt

« on: July 06, 2007, 11:55:05 PM »

Let's share our insights to all our colleagues out there who are presently undergoing tremendous test
in their lives (may it be in the form of different aspects like illnesses, financial problems, family problems
and many others that would really test our spiritual faith. We should comfort them by presenting facts
that would appease and help them to understand the true meaning of it.

As thread starter, i want to quote one bible scripture i've read that would enlighten some of our questions.
It stated in (Proverbs 14:12), "When it comes to sin, he has arranged for a means of atoning for it,
wiping it away, but he will not tolerate it forever. If God were willing to tolerate sin eternally, we
would no hope for the future."

This means that God want us to repent and learn on every sinful activities we did. He wants us to go back and
reunited with him in his state of holiness since he displays all his traits in a perfect balanced way. Meaning let's
uplift our faith on him not only in terms of our downfalls but in every moment of our lives.

i think God allows suffering:
1) because He knows that we can overcome it... with His guidance and help... i believe that we are not given problems/tests in life that we cannot handle... we just need to be aware that He is the way to overcome it...

2) so that we are once in a while reminded that we are not living here in this world with everything spoonfed... we have to do something on our part... we have to strive harder to get to where we want to go to... we have to do our part so we can fulfill our purpose in this world... sometimes we are a bit confused on what that purpose is... when the suffering comes, it is the time that we reflect on our lives... then we will know what we are supposed to be doing with our lives...

God sometimes uses terrible circumstances, when people are at their lowest, to bring them to Himself;  and there are many Christians who have suffered terribly, yet their lives are an encouragement to others who suffer and a challenge to those who are not Christians.

It is a test of our faith.

Romans 8:18: "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us!"

Romans 8:17: "We must also share in his suffering, if we are to share in his glory."

James 5:13: "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray."

1 Peter 4:12: "Do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you. But to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing." And verse 19 says: "Let those who suffer ... entrust their souls to a faithful Creator. . ."

(at dagdagan ko lang, be a stronger person after. more God-fearing man etc.) iba naman. sabihin nagkataon lang, destiny. ang dami.

God allows suffering because HE tests us...  Evil tempt us...

Because he wants to know how much you love HIM. He wants to know if you're really faithful to HIM inspite of all the pains and suffering.  And sometimes He wants you to think of HIM because of all the blessings that HE gave you, maybe you already forgot your responsibilities and love to GOD.

It's because He wants us to grow and learn.  Great achievements don't usually happen just because someone thought it would be a fun thing to do in their spare time. The obstacles teach us. The problems force us to grow, to live, to appreciate what we have and to know who we are. They are a blessing. When we have no other choice, we can do amazing things.

I asked that question many times myself, but the better way to ask it is:"Why is suffering to be avoided in this world?"

As long as we have pain, which is an adjunct of suffering,we are alive. Pain tells us to avoid danger,to teach us lessons in life,to brace us to endure. Pain is a great teacher,we learn to avoid it and minimize it.

Suffering is inevitable in this world. We will always be in conflict with others or suffer natural disasters.

The best thing we need is the presence of God in all our travails.

If God is with us we can go through anything. Just as St. Paul said,"I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me..."
